Harte-Hanks Marketing Scholarship

Harte-Hanks Marketing Scholarship

It was a friend’s suggestion that caused Stephen Thompson to approach California Lutheran with the idea of a marketing scholarship. The idea quickly blossomed into a plan.

With a generous gift of $10,000 in 1985, Mr. Thompson endowed the fund that would encourage junior students majoring in marketing to pursue careers in that field. Recipients of the scholarship would also need to show strong academic capability and leadership potential. The creativity expressed in an assigned paper on marketing was to be another consideration.

To kick off the scholarship and generate excitement among students, Mr. Thompson shared his personal experiences and professional expertise with one of CLU’s business classes. His presentation sparked considerable interest in this new scholarship opportunity.

Although Mr. Thompson was not able to make a return visit to the CLU campus, the value of the scholarship he put into place continued to motivate students in their preparation for careers in the field of marketing. The timing of his idea and his gift was well orchestrated.
