Sheila Melton ’96 Memorial Scholarship
Sheila Melton ‘96 was an active, involved student. She was active in several co-curricular aspects of college life—from drama and band to choir and basketball. As a psychology major, she was a good, solid student who was fondly recalled 10 years later by her advisor, Dr. Leanne Neilson. Now that’s a mark of a good student.
Even before she graduated Sheila had decided to pursue a master’s degree in psychology at the University of Utah. She began her graduate work there in the fall of 1996. She went home to Las Vegas for the holidays, but tragedy struck on her way back to Utah.
Returning to campus, Sheila was driving her car in the company of a friend. She was not wearing her seatbelt when she drove into a bridge near St. George, Utah. Her friend suffered a few scratches, but Sheila was killed in the accident.
The Sheila Melton ’96 Memorial Scholarship was established by Sheila’s mother Ann, with the help of a generous donation from Ann’s employer, the Perini Building Company in Phoenix.
